The fifteen pilot companies selected from the food and beverage sector where the INDUCE methodology and toolkit were tested are located in four countries that represent over 45% of the EU companies in this sector: Spain, France, the Netherlands and Germany.

Companies from France

 

Three pilot companies from France are implicated in the INDUCE project. All of them are located in the southeast of France. Another common point of these companies is that all are producing traditional French products with high-quality standard. But their products are from various sectors: pastries, wine, and candies.

Compagnie des Pâtissiers

Founded in 1995, the Compagnie des Pâtissiers was created from its origins on the know-how of its pastry chefs for the manufacture of highquality industrial pastries. Driven by the French pastry market, the company is experiencing a very strong development. It now has close to 80 employees against only 48 in 2017.

The company that manufactures only frozen pastries specializes in sweet pastries. Its main products are: lemon meringue pie, chocolate pie, pear almond pie and others. To ensure its growth in good conditions, the company has adopted a CSR approach. The result is an action plan that covers a very wide field from employee wellbeing to energy efficiency.

François Doucet Confiseur

François DOUCET Confiseur, is family confectionery company created in 1969, its employs now nearly 60 people in two production units just separated by a road. One unit is dedicated to the production of chocolate coated products. The other unit is dedicated to production of fruit jellies.

The company is producing high standard products, mankind’s heritage and know-how are values that are applied on a daily basis. For about 50 years now, the team have been perpetuating and improving the traditional techniques used in an artisanal confectionery and chocolate-making. Confections with Provence flavours, François DOUCET Confiseur range offers a wide variety of products: coated dried fruits and almonds, gourmet fruit jellies, coated fruits, chocolate.

The company is careful to use a maximum of local products, its buy 75% of the regional production of almonds. In the same philosophy, the company invested several years ago in renewable energy, through thermal and photovoltaic solar panels. The company has already done the energy audit and wants to continue to improve its energy efficiency.

Sylla

Sylla is a historic winery of the south of France, born in 1925. It, therefore, has a Board of Directors composed of 14 winegrowers, including the President, who decides on the company’s strategy and gives employees the means to achieve the objectives set.

16 employees (equivalent full time) are working at Sylla, which produce an average of 55 000 HL of wine every year. Main products are red wine (60%), Rosé wines (30%) and white wines (10%). The Winery has two Designations Protected Origin (PDO): Ventoux & Luberon and one Indication Protected Geographical: Vaucluse.

 

Due to its proximity to the land, Sylla winery has always been concerned by environmental protection, first by implementing environmentally friendly farming practices. They are certified in sustainable agriculture (Terra Vitis and Agri-Confiance). A part of the wine production is certified by organic farming. Since several years they are also working at reducing their environmental footprint. Energy efficiency is one of the axes of this strategy.

Companies from Germany

 

Three pilot companies from Germany are implicated in the INDUCE project. They are located in the North of Germany. These companies are from very varied sectors of the food and beverage industry, such as brewery, meat and sugar.

Darguner Brewery

The Darguner Brewery is located in Dargun, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It was founded in 1991 and continues a centuries-old brewing tradition. Danish monks settled here as early as 1172 and brewed the first Dargun beer.

In the meantime, high-quality beer is brewed at the Dargun site using the most modern production processes and delivered from here to over 90 countries worldwide.

 

The Darguner Brewery is a wholly owned subsidiary of Harboes Bryggeri A/S. Harboes Bryggeri has its headquarters in Skælskør. There it was founded in 1883. In 1957 Harboes Bryggeri was transformed into a joint stock company. During the 1970s the brewery expanded strongly. In 1989, the company was listed on the stock exchange, creating the basis for further expansion.

 

In recent decades, Harboes Bryggeri has experienced steady growth. Today, the group is an attractive and future-proof company both locally and internationally. A highlight in the brewery history of Harboes took place in 2008. On the birthday of the Danish Queen Margarethe, Harboe was appointed royal purveyor to the court.

 

The group consists of the breweries Harboes Bryggeri in Denmark, Darguner Brewery in Germany, Viru Ölu in Estonia and several sales companies. In total, the group exports products to over 80 countries around the world.

Reinert Westfälische Privat-Fleischerei GmbH

Reinert is a Westphalian family-owned company where sausage has been business for three generations. The philosophy of Reinert is quality, craftsmanship and innovation for their customers.

They have been manufacturing their fine meat and sausage products since 1931, in the best family tradition, with special care and passion. Because they love sausage.

 

Reinert places high demands on the quality of its meat and sausage products pay off: both in the trust of the consumers, who have opted for Reinert products for years, and in the awards for high product quality that the company receives year after year from renowned institutions and associations.

 

Reinert cultivates the Westphalian butcher‘s tradition and continues to develop it with modern recipes and state-of-the-art technology. With its innovations, the family-run business is a trailblazer in the German sausage market. A well-known example is the Reinert Sommerwurst: the Cervelat sausage “matured in cloth” came onto the market in 1969 – and was the first-ever brand sausage in Germany. To this day, the taste of Hans Reinert’s Sommerwurst is just as authentic, unmistakable and characteristic as it was forty years ago.

 

In the 1990s, Reinert introduced a completely new taste experience with its Chambelle Gourmet Salami. The composition of salami matured for a long period and original French Camembert was an absolute novelty and required special expertise for its manufacture. After 15 years, Chambelle, with its French flair, has long become a classic at the service counter and on the cold shelf. Its taste and product quality impress to this day.

 

With Reinert Teddy Bear Sausage, the private meat producer has also been successful with a product concept that, after more than ten years, still satisfies the taste of young sausage fans. Reinert has also given thought to modern cuisine: Reinert Ham Nuggets and Grandma Alma‘s Shredded Ham are practical raw ham products that give soups, salads, etc. a hearty flavour in a jiffy.

Suikerunie

In October 1899, 173 arable farmers in founded the Eerste Nederlandsche Coöperatie Beetwortelsuikerfabriek (the First Dutch Cooperative Sugar Beet Factory) in Sas van Gent. In 1900, the first campaign started and the cooperative paid its members a better price for the sugar beet.

Soon, others began to see the benefits and followed suit: in 1916, there were seven cooperative sugar factories processing the sugar beet of their members. The first merger between the three cooperative sugar factories took place in 1947, resulting in the Vereniging Coöperatieve Suikerfabrieken (VCS). In 1966, it merged with the other, still independent cooperative sugar producers. In 1970, the final structure of Suiker Unie became effective. The original cooperatives disappeared and their members became a direct member of Suiker Unie.

 

Suiker Unie delivers top-grade products of consistent quality. They strictly comply with the delivery arrangements. They cooperate with their sugar beet growers, customers and suppliers in many ways.

 

SUGAR FACTORY: ANKLAM: During the annual beet campaign, which lasts from September till the end of January, this factory processes the sugar beet into granulated sugar. Sugar is screened according to the desired particle size, after which it is stored and delivered to customers in the requested packaging.

Companies from Netherlands

 

Three pilot companies from the Netherlands participate in the INDUCE project, but one of them, Royal Cosun, has two locations. These companies are from very varied sectors of the food and beverage industry, such as Vinegar and syrups, Chilled food sector, and sugar.

Burg Groep BV.

Burg Groep has seven modern production centers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and the Czech Republic. Their head office is in Heerhugowaard (the Netherlands).

With over 200 staff, Burg Groep is an informal, internationally-operating organization with short lines of communication. The character of the family firm has remained unchanged despite feverish growth.

 

They are a manufacturer of vinegar, such as balsamic vinegar, natural vinegar, wine vinegar, cider vinegar and organic varieties; fruit cordials, concentrated juices, organic cordials, fruit mixes; cleaners such as cleaning vinegar, bleach and caustic products, cleaning products for washing machines and dishwashers, unblocking agents, ammonia, methylated spirits and distilled water and fluids for use in and around the car, such as cooling fluid, screen wash, lock de-icer and car shampoo. They also produce the packaging in which they supply their products.

 

Their production meets high standards of quality, efficiency and eco-friendliness. They comply with the International Food Standards (IFS) and the Global Standard for Food Safety (BRC). They also have EKO certification and produce kosher for particular product groups.

Kerry B.V.

There are 5 companies from Spain that participate in the INDUCE project. They are located in different areas of the country. These companies are from very different sectors of the food and beverage industry, such as Fruit and vegetables, production and commercialisation of aromas for Food and Beverage, Pastries, sliced bread, biscuits, cakes, cereals and pasta, brewer sector and co-manufacturing of purees, smoothies, juices and nectars in pouch format for private label and distributors.

Camposeven is a Transfomación Agricultural Society, located in San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia), established in 2007, is composed of 10 members, with agricultural experience over 40 years. Their partners have a total of 823 hectares of agricultural land, of these, 61 hectares are greenhouses.
